Investment Banking Trek - New York

****Due to current university travel restrictions, the Summer 2020 career treks have been cancelled. We hope to resume the NCA trek program in 2021.****

Northwestern Career Advancement is pleased to announce the 2020 Investment Banking Career Treks to New York!

This trek will provide a valuable professional development opportunity for students interested in investment banking. Students will visit several organizations during the trek and will network with Northwestern alumni, top professionals, and recent graduates to learn more about each organization and develop contacts, while conveying their own interest in this area.

The schedule for this year’s trek is not finalized yet, but will include many of New York City’s premiere employers in banking. Last year, students had the opportunity to visit: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Blackstone, Evercore, Goldman Sachs, Greenhill, Morgan Stanley, Nomura, and Perella. More employer details will be shared at the trek orientation.

This trek is intended for undergraduates from all academic disciplines from the Class of 2022 with a GPA of 3.3 and above with a demonstrated interest in investment banking.

Applicants must be available during spring break between March 24-26. Applicants should plan to travel and arrive in New York on Monday, March 23.  Hotel accommodations will begin Monday evening (March 23).

Expenses

Selected students will be responsible for their own transportation to and from New York City. In addition, selected students will be responsible for a non-refundable $300.00 deposit. The deposit will be used to cover hotel accommodations for all attendees, transportation around the New York City area and some additional costs.

Financial concerns should NOT prevent any student from applying to the trek. Students accepted to the trek will be provided the opportunity to apply for aid. Financial assistance may be available to students who currently receive financial aid from Northwestern. Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?

Northwestern undergraduate students from all academic disciplines from the Class of 2022 with a 3.3 GPA above are encouraged to apply. In the application, students must show a demonstrated interest in investment banking and an understanding of careers in finance. In order to be considered for the trek, students must be available during spring break and available to participate in the trek from March 24-26.

How many students will be selected for the trek?

We are looking for any qualified student to attend, with a maximum number of 25 attendees per trek.

What are the requirements to participate?

Students who are selected to participate in the trek will be required to complete the following:

  • Attend the required Trek Orientation on March 12 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Complete a resume review with a Career Advisor in NCA, and submit final resume to trek coordinators by Tuesday, March 10 for inclusion in a Career Trek resume book that will be distributed to all participating employers.
  • Complete a feedback survey following the trek.

How will the applicants be evaluated?

Applicants will be evaluated based on completeness of application materials, thoughtfulness of application essay and resume, and relevance of applicant background and career goals.

Can i apply for both the Chicago and New York Treks?

Yes, you may apply to both treks. The application process is handled separately for each, so be sure to apply to both if interested.

How will I get around the city?

Public transportation and a lot of walking! There will be two University staff members leading students with a detailed map, agenda, and travel plan.  Be sure to wear or bring comfortable shoes!

What should I wear?

Students should be prepared to present themselves in a professional manner at all times during the trek. More information about dress and professional behavior will be covered during the Career Trek Orientation. Students can also utilize ‘Cats Closet or the Career Development Fund for support in getting professional attire.  'Cats Closet open hour details will be provided closer to the trek.

What will be the itinerary?

This information will be made available to selected participants at orientation and in the weeks leading up to the trek as employers confirm their participation.
