Artist Bradley McCallum uses Foley’s video footage from the civil wars in Libya and Syria to create oil paintings that he further activates with augmented reality, allowing viewers to experience Foley’s presence, and the footage that inspired the paintings.

Gallery Talk: "Actions for the Earth" with Maddie Brucker

April 27, 12:30-1:30 PM

Join graduate student Maddie Brucker, PhD candidate in Computer Science and Learning Sciences at Northwestern, for a talk on art, learning, and interconnection. Using select works from exhibition "Actions for the Earth" as a starting point, Maddie will discuss how encounters with art are sites of learning that are often deeply intertwined with endeavors of social changemaking. Presented by the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science


How to Know the Wild Flowers

A theatrical ritual of communal healing, this multi-disciplinary piece is inspired by the first field guide for flowers in America called How to Know the Wild Flowers by Mrs. William Starr Dana (Frances Theodora Parsons.)  


The 93rd Annual Waa-Mu Show: TAKEN AWAY, A Musical Trilogy

April 26 to May 5

The 93rd Annual Waa-Mu show, Taken Away: A Musical Trilogy, is a unique presentation of three original short-form musicals, connected by the theme of loss and the poignant exploration of something being taken away.


Seminar: Poverty and Her Daughters

May 7, 6:15-7:45 PM

Poverty and Her Daughters will explore the themes of poverty and education, poverty and violence, poverty and homelessness, and poverty and health outcomes/disabilities. Through a variety of lecture and conversation, participants will deepen their understanding of these themes and have an opportunity to learn about Catholic organizations that are addressing these issues today. The seminar takes place over four Tuesdays, starting May 7th from 6:15-7:45 p.m. CST (May 7, 14, 21, 28).


Sheil Spring Concert

May 10, 7:00-8:00 PM

Sheil music ministers will join with Sheil Bienen School of Music students to present a benefit concert of art songs, chamber music, and concerted liturgical music. Music includes Copland, Mozart, Franck, and others. The concert is free and open to the public; proceeds from a free-will offering will go to support student retreats in the 2024-2025 academic year.


 

Identity-Based Trauma Film Screening & Panel Discussion

May 1, 5:30-7:30 PM  – Block Museum of Art, Mary and Leigh, Pick-Laudati Auditorium (Block Cinema)

 Join us at the Block Cinema to enjoy the film "Jade," followed by an expert-led Q&A and panel discussion! Jade is a film created as a method of exploring the important intersections of trauma, culture, gender, race, and ethnicity. The film also highlights the role of institutional racism in the perpetual cycles of trauma. This event is supported by the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion (OIDI), Women's Center, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).


April is Sexual Assault Action Month (SAAM)

The purpose of CARE's annual Sexual Assault Action Month (SAAM) campaign is to increase the Northwestern community's understanding of the roots and impacts of sexual assault, to motivate all community members to contribute to prevention and survivor support, and to foster connection and healing for sexual assault survivors. It's important for us to remain involved in prevention and to support survivors year-round, but April provides a dedicated time for us to center these important issues.


SOAcon: A Leadership Transition Conference for Student Org Leaders

May 5, 12:00-4:00 PM

Aimed at empowering student leaders to excel during transition, SOAcon is a one-of-its-kind event that will set the standard for student leadership development. Don’t miss out on the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, gain invaluable insights, network with affinity groups, gather resources and vendor contacts, try tasty catering, elevate your leadership skills, and WIN PRIZES! The event will feature sessions about funding tips, cancel culture, leading with empathy, forming effective collaborations, and more.


Wirtz General Auditions

May 11 – 10:00 AM-6:00 PM

The Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts is holding general auditions for our Early Fall ‘24 shows. We hope that you consider auditioning for one or more of the many productions that will be happening at Northwestern this year! Auditions can be either in-person or virtual and are open to all students at Northwestern – (not just performance majors!)


2024 Wildcat Excellence Gratitude Celebration

Tuesday, May 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Louis Room at Norris

Join us for the Wildcat Excellence Gratitude Celebration! There will be food, music, & gratitude card making! This is an annual celebration that honors the outstanding leadership of our students, staff, faculty, student organizations, & their advisors.


 

 Red Watch Band Alcohol Bystander Intervention Trainings

Have you ever had to help a drunk friend but weren’t sure exactly what you were doing? The training will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to identify and intervene effectively in an alcohol-related medical emergency. You’ll learn about how alcohol affects our physiology and behavior, signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning, how to prevent and/or respond to an alcohol emergency; and the truth behind common alcohol-related myths.


 

MS in Education and Social Policy Program Information Session

April 29, 5:00-6:00 PM

Attend a livestreamed information session about the Master of Science in Education & Social Policy Program. Presentations will include information about degree concentrations, course curriculum, the master's project, field experiences for teachers, the application process and financial aid. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of program administrators.


Student Affairs Marketing Needs Photographers & Videographers for Fall 2024

SAM is looking for talented and dependable photographers, videographers, as well as photo/video editors. (or any combination of those) for Fall Quarter 2024. Ideally we would like to get you familiar with the team and your role this quarter. Candidates MUST have a portfolio for review. Work-Study is strongly preferred.
