How the Mail and Package Centers Work
- Mail and packages are delivered directly to the Foster-Walker and Kemper package centers. The mailroom staff organizes letter mail by building before delivering letter mail to mailboxes. The mailroom staff process all packages before packages are available for student pickup.
- Please note that on the tracking of your package, the “delivered” status sometimes means that the package has been delivered to the Evanston post office and not necessarily to campus. Once the package is received on campus, you will get an email stating that you have a package to pick up. We have found that the post office gets this mail to us within 24 hours of it being scanned in at the post office.
- Summer residents do not have access to a mailbox and should visit their assigned mailroom to inquire about paper mail.
- Students receive an email notification to pick up their packages at their package center. Students do not receive email notifications for letter mail.
- Students must present their WildCARD to retrieve a package.
- Packages will be returned to the sender (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.) or forwarded (USPS only) if the student is not living on-campus at the time of delivery. This excludes the two weeks leading up to Fall Quarter move-in.
- All letter mail left in mailboxes and unclaimed packages remaining at the package centers after the academic year has concluded will be returned to sender (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.) or forwarded (USPS only).
How to Send Mail & Packages Off Campus
- The mailroom does not accept packages to be shipped out or returned unless the package has a pre-paid shipping or return label. We do not sell any postage or shipping materials.
- Outgoing, stamped mail may be slipped through the mail slot marked “US Mail” near any campus residence mailbox.
- There are three USPS locations in Evanston:
- Evanston Main Office at 1101 Davis Street
- Evanston North at 1929 Central Street
- Evanston South at 701 Main Street
- There is a UPS Store at 1555 Sherman Avenue (847-869-3000). They have supplies and materials available for shipping. Additional information may be found when you visit the UPS website. For customer service, you can call 1-800-PICK-UPS (1-800-742-5877).
