Assistant Resident Director
Assistant Resident Directors (ARDs) are 10-month, 20-hour-a-week graduate students who live on campus and collaborate with a full-time Resident Director to manage a residential area of approximately 350-700 students. Assistant Resident Directors report to Resident Directors and assist in the supervision of undergraduate or graduate Resident Assistants (RAs/GRAs). Assistant Resident Directors work as part of the Office of Residential Experience and collaborate with the Residential Services team to foster an inclusive residential community that fulfills the mission, vision, and goals of the Division of Student Affairs. ARDs promote student agency and accountability while empowering residents to make healthy, informed decisions.
Graduate Assistant to the Faculty-in-Residence
The Graduate Assistants to the Faculty-in-Residence (FIR GA) are 10-month, 20-hour-a-week graduate students who live on campus and work directly with Faculty-in-Residence (FIR) throughout the academic year (September 1 to June 30) on the Evanston campus. The FIR GAs are appointed by the Office of Residential Experience to assist one or more FIRs in the creation of a vibrant on-campus experience for students through the Residential Areas. The FIR GA collaborates with students, staff, and faculty by assisting the FIR in event logistics, event management, marketing and communications efforts, and event support.
Graduate Resident Assistant (GRA)
The Graduate Resident Assistant (GRA) is an essential member of the Northwestern Residential Services team whose primary role is to support the social, academic, and personal transition of graduate residential students and their families to the Northwestern community. The GRA is a graduate student leader in Residential Services who is an integral member of the Engelhart Hall, McManus Center, and Garrett Place residential communities. The principal GRA duties involve three main areas: administrative duties, community development, and on-call responsibilities.
