Fall 2022 International Student Orientation (ISO) will be in-person from September 8 - 12, 2022. ISO begins with move-in day, so plan to arrive on September 8.

  • Setting up a U.S. Bank Account
  • Transportation in the U.S.

2022 Undergraduate ISO Schedule

Below you will find an overview of the planned Fall 2022 ISO orientation schedule.

Thursday, September 8, 2022
Arrival and move-in day

Schedule your travel to arrive and move-in to the residence halls on September 8, 2022. Schedule an "Student Airport Pickup" request in the OISS Portal if you would like an International Peer Advisor (IPA)  to meet you at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport and help you with transportation to the NU Evanston campus. Airport pickups are available to students arriving on September 8 only.  IPAs will also be stationed at the residence hall area desks to help you move into your room and get settled.  

  • Airport Pickups all day - Sign-up for an airport pick-up by submitting the Student Airport Pickup Request in your OISS Portal profile  
  • Evening dinner with IPA Groups in the NU Dining Halls (IPA groups will be assigned in July) 
  • Shopping trips to get your basic supplies at local Target and CVS  stores

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Meet your OISS Advisor & Immigration Information Session at  Norris University Center
12:00 - 1:00 PM Lunch
1:30 - 2:30 PM Health Insurance presentation at the Norris University Center Louis Room. Learn about health insurance and health care in the U.S. and learn about the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).  
2:30 - 3:30 PM IPA "Fast Friending" Activity at the Norris University Center Louis Room
4:00 - 5:00 PM Financial Aid Students Only - Understanding your financial aid, location to be determined
7:00 - 9:00 PM Evening bonfire at the Lakefill

Logistics Day

Activities will include:

  • Opening a bank account, cell phone setup, shopping, getting your final immunizations 
  • International Students on Financial Aid event: peer to peer knowledge sharing and wisdom  
  • New students check-in @ Wildcat Welcome information centers 
  • Regional Networking -  meet students who are from or who have lived in your home region and/or speak your language(s). 
  • Beach day - enjoy Northwestern’s Lake Michigan beaches to relax before the start of the quarter.

COVID-19 Vaccination

The COVID-19 vaccination is required for all Northwestern students. Please review details of NU's COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement. Students, faculty and staff are required to follow policies, protocols and guidance designed to protect everyone’s health. Essential information:
  • You will need to completed the COVID-19 Vaccination Form  to register for classes.
  • You will submit the required COVID-19 Vaccination Form either to report your vaccination or to request an exception so that you can arrive and receive the vaccine locally. 
  • Review the COVID-19 FAQs for International Students for complete information on NU COVID-19 policies and requirements.

Travel Planning

  • Non-U.S. citizens who are nonimmigrants traveling to the United States by air from any part of the world are required to  establish that they are fully vaccinated, with some limited exceptions. See the CDC COVID-19 webpage on International Travel for the most up-to-date requirements and recommendations for international travelers.

  • OISS Airport Pick-up on September 8, 2022  - OISS will provide transportation from O'hare International Airport to the Northwestern Evanston campus for new undergraduate international students on September 8, 2022. Sign-up by submitting the Student Airport Pickup request in your OISS Portal profile.  Note: The option to request an airport pick up will be available in the OISS Portal (tab #3 - Requests & Documents) AFTER your immigration document (Form I-20 or DS-2019) is issued. 
  • All F-1 and J-1 with an initial I-20 or DS-2019, including transfer students, are permitted to enter the United States 30 days before the program start date listed on their documents.
