Evanston Campus Vendor Delivery Instructions
Each department generally handles its own receiving. Very few buildings have actual loading docks, and some departments are located in converted houses, so it is important to know the situation at the address to which you are delivering. Many locations require special equipment/trucks depending on the items being delivered. You are urged to contact the person ordering the goods to learn their delivery situation.

Evanston Truck Size
Trucks longer than 40 feet will find it difficult to reach any of the docks listed above. If you are delivering to an Evanston address not listed above, it is strongly suggested that you call the person receiving the items to learn about any special requirements. Very few buildings have loading docks, so in many cases, special equipment or truck sizes may be required.
- During construction, any trucks longer than 30 feet will need to contact Shipping and Receiving at 847-467-7473 or email reginald.lee@northwestern.edu to ensure the appropriate arrangements are in place to receive the freight.
Oversized Freight
For oversized items and equipment please contact Shipping and Receiving to schedule your delivery a minimum of two days in advance to ensure the appropriate arrangements and accommodations are made to successfully handle your freight delivery. It is likely we will be unable to receive large freight items if they arrive unscheduled.
Large Freight Items
Please contact the Shipping and Receiving dock at 847.467.7473 or email reginald.lee@northwestern.edu if you have questions or need assistance. Large freight items include:
- Items longer than a 48 x 40 pallet
- Items that require riggers or movers
- Items that are 2,500 lbs. or greater
Delivery Driver Truck Routes
Vendors making deliveries on the Evanston campus must utilize approved City of Evanston truck routes. Please refer to the City of Evanston Truck Routes Map.
- Failure to abide by the above may be grounds for additional penalties or termination of the contract.
- If the contractor delivers to the Chicago campus, as a way to reduce congestion during the peak commuting times, vendors are encouraged to avoid the hours between 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, whenever possible, and limit delivery vehicles to off-peak hours.
Anti-Idling Ordinance for Vendor Deliveries in Evanston
The City of Evanston has a formal anti-idling ordinance to which all vendors should adhere. The ordinance prohibits standing or parked vehicles that are over 8,000 lbs. in gross weight from idling their engines for more than five minutes in any 60-minute period. Vendors making deliveries on campus must abide by this ordinance. For more information on the ordinance, visit the City of Evanston's Anti-Idling Ordinance.
