New Foreign Travel Expense Reporting Requirement Implemented

January 21, 2020

Effective September 16, 2019, a new reporting feature to the expense report process in NUFinancials will better track foreign travel dates and foreign spending by Northwestern. This enhancement was a collaborative effort of Northwestern IT, Accounts Payable, and Financial Operations Tax and Regulatory Services.

When submitting expense reports that contain any foreign expense types, such as Foreign Lunch, Foreign Rail, etc., Northwestern employees are now required to include dates, foreign locations, and transaction amounts for each foreign location. This was determined to be the most efficient method available to collect this information for the analysis of Northwestern’s tax residency status in non-U.S. countries.

For more information, please review the Foreign Travel Dates FAQ job aid in myHR Learn. For assistance with this feature, contact the Northwestern IT Help Desk at 1.4357 or consultant@northwestern.edu.
