Immigration Document Request

As a full-time incoming international student at Northwestern University, you must request an I-20 or DS-2019 through the Office of International Student and Scholar Services portal. There are two types of immigration documents you could request. Please choose only one. 

Incoming students will be able to:

  • Apply for the I-20/ DS-2019 immigration document approximately 6 months prior to the program start date
  • Schedule Visa appointments 120 days prior to the program start date on the I-20/DS-2019

Requesting an I-20 or a DS-2019

Required documents

Documents required for your immigration document (I-20/DS-2019) Request include the following:

  • Passport (biographical page only)
  • Northwestern admission or invitation letter
    • All admitting departments issue admitted students a letter either virtual (e-mailed) or a hardcopy.  Exchange programs usually provide you with an invitation letter.
  • Financial documentation 
  • Dependent (Spouse/ Children) documentation (if applicable)
    • You may bring your dependents when you arrive or later. If your dependents will be traveling with you, please request their immigration documents at the same time as yours. 
    • Please include financial documentation for dependents. Dependents financial costs are $6,300 for a spouse and $4,300 per child for 9 months. This is prorated for shorter programs.

We accept the following formats: .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .txt, .ppt, .pptx.
