Know Your Rights

At Northwestern, it is imperative to create inclusive and supportive spaces for all employees, including those experiencing pregnancy or related medical conditions due to pregnancy. Discrimination or harassment based on pregnancy, past pregnancies, intended pregnancies, or medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth is both illegal and unacceptable. We are committed to fostering an environment where every member of our faculty, staff and student can thrive, regardless of their life stage or medical circumstances.

Understanding Your Rights

Northwestern University firmly upholds the principle that every employee and student have the right to work without fear of discrimination or harassment due to their pregnancy or related medical conditions. These conditions encompass a broad spectrum, including pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, post-partum depression, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, lactation, and breastfeeding. Whether you are a full-time staff member, a part-time worker, a temporary employee, or even an applicant for a job at Northwestern, your rights are protected.
