Spring Break Info
All residence halls and residential colleges remain open during Spring Break.
Undergraduate residence halls, residential colleges, and special interest communities remain open and staff are available to assist you during the spring break period. Below you will find information about services available during the break as well as tips to prepare for departure should you be leaving during this time.
- Area Desk Hours and RAs on Duty:
- Services at Area Desks will be consolidated to two locations between 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20 and 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30. During this time, North Campus residents will utilize the North Area Desk at Schapiro (847) 467-5802 and South Campus residents will utilize the South Area Desk at Allison (847) 467-5800. Both desks are open 24/7.
- RAs will be on duty 24/7 on weekends and from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays. Duty phone numbers will be posted at building entrances and at area desks. The RA on duty can also be contacted through the area desk.
- NUPD is available at (847) 491-3456 or 911 if you have an emergency.
- Dining hours during the break period are posted on the Northwestern Dining website.
- Mail and Package Centers will remain open standard hours over Spring Break.
Leaving for the break? Take a few steps to ensure the safety of your living space
If you are leaving over the break, we encourage you to do the following to ensure the health and safety of the facility:
- Turn off lights
- Unplug all items (except refrigerators)
- Take out your trash and recycling
- Remove perishable food items from your fridge and throughout your room
- Remove perishable items in public area refrigerators and label items in public areas you would like to keep through break
- Defrost your fridge (recommended but not required – if you defrost your fridge, be sure to start a few days before your departure and place a towel under the door to catch water)
- Close and latch your window
- Close your curtains/blinds
- Turn the heat to low
- Dust or wipe clean all surfaces
- Sweep or vacuum your floor
- Clean your bathroom (where applicable)
- Ensure that the door is locked securely as you leave
Not Returning for Spring Quarter?
If you are moving out and not returning for Spring Quarter, please be sure to remove all of your belongings from the room and complete the online self-check-out by 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Please also turn in any temp cards that may be in your possession. If you are not returning for Spring Quarter, be sure to complete a cancellation form in the Housing Portal (under Forms and Requests) if you have not yet done so. If you do not complete this step, billing for room and your meal plan will continue. More information about cancellations can be found here under Housing Cancellation.
Quiet Hours
As a reminder, 24-hour quiet hours are in effect from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13 through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20.
City of Evanston – Spring Re-evaluations
Inspectors from the City of Evanston will return between March 23 and March 27, 2026, to re-inspect corrective actions identified during the winter evaluations. This review will confirm that all required corrections have been completed. Inspections for each action item will be brief, and inspectors and NU staff will knock and announce themselves prior to entry.
