Spirituality at the Intersections
Visiting Scholar, Chris Stedman
We are thrilled to welcome Chris Stedman, author of Irl, Faitheist, and the forthcoming Nothing in Particular, as a visiting scholar whose work at the intersection of secularity, meaning-making, and community aligns deeply with our ongoing research and assessment on students who fall somewhere in the ‘spiritual cracks’. Stedman’s visit provides a unique opportunity to explore how emerging spiritual identities are shaped outside traditional religious frameworks. He will lead two programs on sexuality and atheism, highlighting the cultivation of connection, purpose, and belonging in non-traditional ways. Co-sponsored by Health Promotion & Wellness, Center for Awareness, Response & Education, Religious & Spiritual Life, and the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center.
Sacred Desires: Sexuality & Spirituality
Monday, May 5 | 6-7:30pm | Parkes 120
The connection between sexuality and spirituality can be… complicated. For some, sexuality is a meaningful expression of their spiritual life. For others, it may feel limiting—or even excluded altogether. Many people experience tension or feel like outsiders when exploring sexual identity within spiritual spaces. Join us for dinner and an open, spirited conversation with Chris Stedman, writer, podcaster, professor, and LGBTQIA+ mutual aid advocate, as we unpack these intersections together. Dinner provided! RSVP for Sacred Desires by May 4th.
Nothing in Particular: A Lunch Conversation with Chris Stedman
Tuesday, May 6 | 12:30-1:30pm | Parkes 120
Join us for a casual lunch and conversation with visiting scholar Chris Stedman as he discusses themes from his forthcoming book, Nothing in Particular, which explores the lives and longings of people who don’t identify with any particular religion or spiritual tradition. This is a chance for students to reflect on their own experiences with spirituality, secularity, and identity in a welcoming, judgment-free space. Come connect, question, and share—no belief required. Register for A Lunch Conversation with Chris Stedman by May 5th.
Kindling Conversations: Atheism and Spirituality

Whether you're atheist, agnostic, curious/questioning, or something else, you're invited to explore these questions with us. We'll be joined by special guest Chris Stedman, a writer, podcaster, professor, and LGBTQIA+ mutual aid advocate who focuses on the intersections of atheism and spirituality. Dinner provided!
