Daily Fruit and Vegetable Consumption

Fruits and vegetables are staples of a healthier balanced diet. They provide key nutrients that help regulate your body's natural processes and help reduce the risk of some chronic diseases.

On average, women should consume 2-3 cups of vegetables and 1.5-2 cups of fruits per day. Men should consume 3-4 cups of vegetables and 2-2.5 cups of fruits per day. These quantities can vary from person to person. For more information on diet and nutrition visit myplate.gov.

Of Note:

  •  While NU Undergraduates do report a slightly higher intake of fruits and vegetables than the national sample, most students are still not meeting the daily serving requirements of fruit and vegetable intake.
  • Varsity Athletes report eating more servings of fruits and vegetables than any other sub-group of Northwestern Undergraduates students.
