On-campus pharmacy closing Dec. 15

The on-campus pharmacy in Evanston, located in Northwestern Medicine Student Health Service (NMSHS) at 633 Emerson Street, will permanently close on Dec. 15, 2025. NMSHS will no longer dispense medications or sell over-the-counter medication after that date. NMSHS clinicians will continue prescribing medication to students to be filled elsewhere.

This decision was made by Northwestern University after studying historical and current utilization of the campus pharmacy and the availability of convenient options near campus that maintain evening and weekend hours. Students have several retail pharmacies within walking distance for their medication needs, as well as the option to use mail-order pharmacies. For students with NU-SHIP, CVS Caremark® Mail Service Pharmacy can also be used.

Prescription transfers

To ensure continuity of care, existing prescription records will be automatically transferred to a local pharmacy upon the NMSHS pharmacy’s closure. We are currently finalizing those details and will communicate this information once we have confirmation from that pharmacy. This information will also be on the NMSHS pharmacy website. We encourage you to transfer your prescription records proactively by contacting your preferred pharmacy to inform them you want to transfer your prescription before Friday, Dec. 12. We also encourage you to share this information with your clinician at your next appointment, so they can send future prescriptions to your new pharmacy.

NMSHS is committed to serving students during this period of transition. If you have any questions or need assistance, you can contact the pharmacy at 847-491-2144 or the main Student Health Service office at 847-491-8100. You may also visit the pharmacy before closure. NMSHS continues to offer a range of medical services for eligible students on the Evanston and Chicagocampuses.

NMSHS thanks the students who have entrusted us with their prescription needs over the years. Northwestern Medicine and Northwestern University are proud of the pharmacy staff and the outstanding care and service they have provided to the Northwestern community.
