February is approaching, and Northwestern is set to host a range of events and programs throughout the month.
In addition to Valentine's Day and other events, the second month of the year is Black History Month, an annual observance honors and celebrates the achievements, contributions and history of Black Americans and their role in shaping the United States.
From crafts and cooking tutorials to a jazz orchestra concert, learn more about what’s coming up below.
Valentines Bisque Painting with ARTica Studios
Stop by the ARTica Studios on one of two days to kick off the month with heart-shaped dish painting. For only $5 per participant, you can get creative and create a one-of-a-kind dish, while supplies last. Learn more here.
Black History Month Celebration: A Tribute to Miles Davis
Join Northwestern’s Jazz Orchestra as it pays tribute to Miles Davis with music from his 1957 release Miles Ahead. The album was met with critical praise and is recognized as one of the most successful examples of the Third Stream movement. Tickets are $8 for the public and $5 for students with a valid Wildcard. Black History Month Celebration: Honoring the Past, Shaping the Future
Join Religious & Spiritual life for its annual Black History Celebration, a meaningful campus gathering that honors the presence, history, resilience and contributions of African diaspora in the United States. This program will feature inspiring music, reflections, dance and moments of unity that celebrate Black culture and faith while encouraging connection. Solidari-Tea: Valentine’s Day Edition
Multicultural Student Affairs is hosting a Valentine’s Day edition of its Solidari-Tea event series on February 10. Stop by the Multicultural Center to get crafty and create a handmade present, like a card, memory jar or mini canvas, for a loved one. Craft supplies will be provided, along with tea and snacks. Mole-Making Workship
Join Chef Ernesto of Evanston-based El Molcajete Sauces as he teaches students how to make mole from scratch. This event will guide students through traditional techniques, while exploring the history, meaning and flavors of mole rooted in Indigenous Mexican foodways. Register here.
Valentine’s Card Crafts & Candy
Create some cards for the people you love and enjoy some candy at ARTica on February 13. Stop by this drop-in event any time from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. to create some festive crafts, while supplies last. Learn more here.
