Communicating Your Research
How to reach a wider audience
Faculty are invited to attend a new series of in-person and virtual workshops for faculty co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost and the Office of Global Marketing and Communication (OGMC). Faculty may sign up for one or more in the series.
These sessions will provide:
- Ways to present and write about your research that will resonate with the public as well as with your disciplinary peers
- Advice for how to work with journalists and the media, including on-camera training
- Guidance for how to build a social media presence
- Best practices for reaching a wider audience through op-eds and books for public audiences
OGMC also offers interview tips, advice for writing op-eds and other resources.

Danielle Bainbridge, Assistant Professor of Theatre, School of Communication, will present eight key steps to translating your research for a wider audience using digital media such as podcasts, video/webcasts, op-eds, social media posts, etc. |
Nov. 14, 2024 | Media 101
In this session, members of OGMC’s media staff will present basic tips on working with the media, including understanding news deadlines, how to make faculty work interesting for lay audiences and more. |

Broadcasting Bootcamp These personalized, 45-minute, in-person media-training sessions with broadcast experts from OGMC’s media team will provide faculty with the experience of being on camera during either a pre-taped or live interview. Learn more about upcoming dates and register online. |
Spring 2025 | Academic Branding 101
What do you want to be known for and how can you best express your brand in an accessible way to your audiences? What are the most effective means to communicate your brand, including your on-line presence, social media, and in person? Members of OGMC’s staff will provide an overview of branding followed by a panel of faculty discussing what has worked best for them. |
Writing support
In addition to programming on communicating your research, the Office of the Provost offers a variety of programs to support your scholarly writing, including on-site writing groups, writing retreats, and workshops.
