State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement

SARA sealNorthwestern University is an institutional participant in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). SARA is a voluntary agreement among member states and U.S. territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of distance-education courses and programs. SARA membership includes all states, with the exception of California, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Learn more about SARA.

State Licensure

District of Columbia

Northwestern is approved by the District of Columbia Higher Education Licensure Commission to offer the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Journalism, an immersive course for Master of Science in Integrated Marketing and Communication students, the School of Education and Social Policy Summer Field Studies Program in the District of Columbia.

New York State

Northwestern is approved by the New York State Education Department Board of Regents to operate a semester away program for its Master of Science in Journalism or Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications students, at part of its Medill in NYC program.
