About the Daniel I. Linzer Award for Faculty Service

Faculty service is one of the critical and essential elements that makes Northwestern excellent. The Daniel I. Linzer Award for Faculty Service celebrates faculty exemplars of academic citizenship and service.

Linzer Award recipients have performed extraordinary service that has had a positive impact on the University as an institution and on the members of the university community. This service has significantly enhanced the quality of Northwestern as an educational institution and community of scholars. Nominations should clearly demonstrate how the faculty member(s) have consistently and positively supported other students, staff, and faculty members’ achievements, successes, and accomplishments at Northwestern. Nominations should describe a collaborative approach to achieving this goal.

Examples of outstanding service include, but are not limited to:

  • Application of their expertise to benefit Northwestern University through participation and service to organizations, committees or university governance.
  • Creating opportunities for engagement in open dialogue and encouraging productive discussion across difference.
  • Significant contributions to building a positive community in informal roles “behind the scenes” or in formal roles.
  • Dedication to creating a support system and fostering a growth environment for all members of the Northwestern community.
  • Commitment to bringing together people in ways that build a stronger community.
