Students Traveling Abroad (NEW)

Introducing our new 5 minute video: Safe & Healthy Travel Abroad: Essentials for Travelers. This video is tailored for student travelers but offers valuable insights for everyone. It provides essential steps to promote a safe and healthy journey abroad. For a detailed guide with helpful links, refer to our Trip Planning Checklist.

Faculty & Staff Traveling with Students

Trip Leader Training

Regardless of the destination or duration of a university-sponsored trip or program abroad, Northwestern employees who accompany students abroad accept a leadership role in understanding and mitigating risk. Trip Leader Training is designed for faculty and staff to help them identify and manage foreseeable risks as well as be prepared to respond to emergencies. OGSS recommends that trip leaders sign up for this training at least every other year to learn about new policies and recommendations. Dates and times of upcoming trainings can be found on the OGSS Events page.

Faculty & Staff Organizing or Supporting Global Travel

First Responder Training

First Responder Training is for staff and faculty who do not travel with students but may be asked to report an emergency abroad or assist with a health or safety incident. Learn how to begin an effective response and engage our emergency health provider with this scenario-based training. Dates and times of upcoming virtual trainings can be found on the OGSS Events page.

International Incident Response Training (New)

The International Incident Response Training is a four-hour, two session program designed to help faculty and staff respond to health needs and / or safety concerns before or during travel. The goal is to empower you with tools and resources to manage the most common incidents, but also to support a more complicated matter that requires a team-based approach. OGSS has consolidated the most critical content of the ten-session Education Abroad Crisis Management Council (EACMC) program into a new four-hour, two session format.

The first session will focus on traveler health care, including preparation, GeoBlue insurance coverage, and overseas incident management. The second session will discuss risk assessment resources and responding to victims of crime and security incidents, such as civil unrest.

This training is for those new to Northwestern, new to supporting international travelers, or for anyone who has been around for a while but needs a refresher on the subjects. The new training will be held in person. Register for sessions 1 & 2 now at OGSS Events.
