Faculty & Staff Traveling with Students
Regardless of the destination or duration of a university-sponsored trip or program abroad, Northwestern employees who accompany students abroad accept a leadership role in understanding and mitigating risk. Trip Leader Training is designed for faculty and staff to help them identify and manage foreseeable risks as well as be prepared to respond to emergencies. Faculty & Staff Organizing or Supporting Global Travel
First Responder Training is designed for staff and faculty who do not travel with students, but may be the recipient of a request for health or safety assistance, or to report an emergency from abroad. Learn how to begin an effective response and engage our emergency health provider with this scenario-based training. The comprehensive training modules designed to meet the EACMC learning goals require a commitment of approximately 20 hours over a 10-12 month period. The goals of the EACMC are to:
- improve participants’ confidence in managing routine and emergency health care needs abroad as well as be prepared to co-manage more serious incidents in collaboration with OGSS or other relevant units on campus;
- develop process for shared response and management of a widespread crises in a location impacting multiple units or types of travelers; and
- prepare for situations where one person or office, at least initially, may have to take charge of a crisis situation.
Content is developed and delivered by Julie Anne Friend and Beth Osterlund in the Office of Global Safety and Security and in consultation with various experts on campus and in applicable fields. for each session.
