Applications open for Generative AI 101
Dear colleagues,
I write to invite you to apply to Generative AI 101, a new six-week program co-sponsored by Office of the Provost and Northwestern IT Teaching and Learning Technologies to support instructors’ literacy in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI).
The program is open to all instructors — across schools, disciplines and campuses — who will teach in the Spring, Summer or Fall 2025.
A cohort of 15 to 20 instructors will be selected to join the program’s first iteration, scheduled for Jan. 27-March 7, 2025. Applications are open now, and the deadline to apply is Dec. 2.
Generative AI 101 will be conducted primarily in a synchronous online format, with in-person sessions bookending the program. Accommodations may be made for asynchronous participation as needed.
As part of the program, participants will explore a variety of GenAI tools and develop an assignment for use in their own teaching. Each participant will receive a one-year license to the suite of Microsoft Copilot Generative AI tools for Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
This is a great opportunity to dive into a new technology that is changing our world and to explore its potential for your teaching and your students’ learning. I encourage you to apply.
Sincerely,
Miriam Gamoran SherinAssociate Provost for Undergraduate Education
