Pandemic response updates and March 10 faculty webinar

Dear faculty,

Last week, I was delighted to notify 53 members of our community that they have been awarded funding through our new COVID-19 Research Recovery Grants program. We awarded an additional 22 grants through the expanded Provost Grants for Research in Humanities, Social Sciences and the Arts program.

In total, we awarded nearly $2 million in grant funding last week to support faculty and help mitigate the personal and professional challenges of the pandemic. The awards also reinforce for me one of the great challenges of this pandemic—balancing attendance to the day-to-day demands of an unpredictable health crisis with the long-term effects that COVID-19 is having on the work and well-being of our faculty.

We will address this important topic during a faculty webinar scheduled for noon Thursday, March 10. I invite you to register now. During the one-hour webinar, Associate Provost for Faculty Sumit Dhar will provide an overview of the Faculty Pandemic Impact Response Workgroup’s report and recommendations on Northwestern’s response to COVID-19 as well as the University’s current initiatives and future plans in response to the pandemic. We will leave time for questions about the presentation as well as general questions for Office of the Provost leadership. The webinar will be recorded and shared later.

I am inspired every day by your commitment to our collective mission. Thank you for your tenacity and dedication in the face of these challenges. I look forward to addressing these and other topics in more detail on Thursday.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Hagerty
Provost and Professor
