Faculty Programming Updates

Dear faculty,

As you saw in today’s community update, Northwestern will host two Return to Campus Discussion Series webinars next week. The first, on Tuesday, Jan. 11, will provide a high-level overview of our health landscape and plans to return to in-person classes and activities on Jan. 18. The second, on Wednesday, Jan. 12, is specifically intended for faculty and will focus on guidance and supports for instruction, research and general well-being. I encourage you to tune in to both webinars or view the recordings when they are posted online.

As we prepare for the second week of Wildcat Wellness and beyond, I want to provide some additional updates on our programming for January and February.

  • Faculty Wellness Week has been postponed from next week to Feb. 7-13. I encourage you to take advantage of the many options for physical and mental health offered by Northwestern that can be sampled free of charge during Faculty Wellness Week.
  • The Faculty Well-Being Conversation on Navigating the Challenges of Eldercare will still take place from noon-1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14. Register online to learn about Northwestern’s resources and share strategies.
  • The Using Improvisation to Communicate Science to the Public workshop will be offered to faculty in STEM fields from 9-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27. In this highly interactive communication workshop, Heather Barnes, an expert in using improvisation to communicate science, will lead a series of improv exercises designed to increase communication skills when working with the public, media and others in your STEM field. You will gain tools to become a more effective communicator about your research and its impact, learn how to share complex science in an accessible, more inclusive way, and increase your comfort sharing your research with the public whether you are in person or virtual. Register online.
  • Remember, today is the deadline to apply for COVID-19 Research Recovery Grants and Provost Grants for Research in Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts.

If you have any questions, please email Faculty Resources at faculty@northwestern.edu.

Thank you for all of your excellent work in teaching, mentoring, service, and research and creative work, especially as you continue to adjust to the impact and disruption caused by the pandemic.

Sincerely,

Sumit Dhar
Associate Provost for Faculty
