Bookstore changes: Important faculty guidance for summer and fall course materials
Dear faculty,
As Northwestern prepares to transition to its new bookstore partner, Follett Higher Education, all campus bookstore locations will be closed from June 19 through July 5.
Please be mindful of the important guidance provided in this message to ensure you understand your options for submitting summer and fall course material information, as well as guidance the University is providing to students.
Ordering summer and fall course materials
Northwestern’s current partner, Barnes & Noble, will continue to collect summer and fall course material information before it ceases operations at Northwestern on June 18. Instructors and departments can still submit orders to Barnes & Noble up to June 18, and that information will be transferred to Follett. Instructors of courses that will start June 22 should submit their book orders by June 10 to ensure the information is transferred to Follett.
After June 18, all book adoptions must be placed directly with Follett. Guidance for adoptions will be provided soon.
Spring Quarter book rental return deadline is Saturday, June 13
Students’ deadline for Spring Quarter book rental returns is June 13. Barnes & Noble will continue to accept rental returns through June 18. However, students should plan to return their rental textbooks by the June 13 due date in accordance with their rental agreement. Non-returned rental books are subject to the full used book price replacement fee and Barnes & Noble’s 10% restocking fee.
Summer course materials availability for students
On June 15, Follett will launch its Northwestern website for course material purchases. A link to the online store will be added to Norris University Center’s Northwestern Bookstore website. From June 15 through July 6, students can either have their Follett orders shipped, which is recommended, or select pickup within two business days in Norris University Center Room 3-228 (third floor near the SOURCE) from 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All Follett locations will open on July 6
Follett will open its stores in Norris University Center, Abbott Hall and Kellogg Emporium on July 6. The Norris and Abbott stores will have course materials available for the summer session.
Please continue to monitor Norris University Center’s Northwestern Bookstore website for the latest information. For time-sensitive questions related to course materials, please reach out to Follett Course Materials Market Manager Lisette Martinez at l.martinez@follett.com or 312-776-6187.
