Director for Undergraduate Education

Lee West joined the Office of the Provost in December 2016.

As Director for Undergraduate Education, Lee facilitates collaborative cross-school and cross-unit initiatives for undergraduates, supports linkages between curricular and co-curricular support services and programming, and works across the schools and units to extend efforts in assessing student learning outcomes of undergraduates. She led the establishment of an undergraduate advising community, connecting school advisers, department advisers and key campus colleagues. Lee co-founded the Affordable Instructional Resource (AIR) group to address course costs, including creating Faculty Open Educational Resource (OER) Grants.

Before coming to Northwestern, Lee was Senior Associate Director for Stanford Introductory Studies, where she provided leadership for high-impact academic undergraduate programs. Prior to Stanford she was at the western regional accreditation association where she coordinated the peer review process of higher education institutions and led educational programming, with a focus on the science of learning and assessment of learning outcomes.

Lee earned a doctorate in Communication Studies at The University of Iowa, and has taught communication and rhetoric courses and served as a consultant for ACT, PBS and other non-profit organizations.
