Archive a Folder

Archiving a folder is useful when you want to keep older or outdated content for reference without having it appear on the live website or in search results. For example, you may want to preserve content from a completed program, past event, former initiative, or previous version of a site while removing it from the current site navigation and search results.

Steps to Archive a Folder

  1. Navigate to the folder you want to archive in the Cascade CMS asset tree.
  2. Open the More (...) menu in the upper-right of the preview, or right-click the folder in the asset tree and select Copy.
  3. Enter a new name in the New Folder Name/System Name field. Use lowercase letters and dashes, with no spaces.
    For example: 2025-events
  4. If needed, select a different destination parent folder for the archived copy.
  5. Click Submit or Copy to create the new folder.
  6. Update the folder title so it clearly indicates that the content is archived.
    For example: 2025 Events Archive
  7. Exclude the folder from publishing and indexing:
    • Select the folder, click Edit and open Properties tab.
      • Uncheck Include when publishing.
      • Uncheck Include when indexing.
    • Click Submit to save your changes.
  8. Make sure to Remove or update links to the original content as needed so users are directed to the current version of the content rather than the archived material.

Note: Renaming the folder changes its system name (URL/asset tree name). If the folder has already been published, make sure any existing links or references to the old URL are addressed before completing the archive.
