Annual NU-SHIP Enrollment / Waiver Process
All degree-seeking Northwestern students must have comprehensive health insurance. To this end, all degree-seeking students* are defaulted each year into the Northwestern University Student Health Insurance Plan (NU-SHIP).
*Most students in the School of Professional Studies are exempt from this requirement. Those in the Accelerated Masters in Public Policy and Administration are required to make a selection.
Per University policy, international students – students holding a J-1 or F-1 U.S. visa – are required to confirm enrollment in the NU-SHIP for the entire time they are studying at Northwestern.
Students who have alternate insurance coverage must waive their NU-SHIP enrollment online in CAESAR during their applicable open enrollment period. If you fail to waive by the deadline you will remain enrolled in the NU-SHIP for the remainder of the academic year, and you will be responsible for the relevant premium charge billed to your student account.
