Cohen Commons

Project Status: COMPLETED

Construction start: Fall 2014
Completion: Winter 2015

Project Description & Statistics

The main objective of this project is to re-energize the space and restore it to an attractive state-of-the-art space for McCormick and the University. Cohen Commons is the largest non-classroom gathering space in the Technological Institute. The scope of work for this project includes an interior renovation of the Cohen Commons Staff Lounge and adjacent kitchen, approximately 2,400 gsf total. The lounge has a 25-ft high ceiling with occupancy of up to 80 people.

The final design creates a cultured yet comfortable gathering area for meetings, and events for various audiences including donors, alumni, visitors, and advisory boards. The space is intended to be flexible and adaptable, providing the ability to host large assemblies such as McCormick faculty and recognition events. Movable furnishings allow users to change configurations as the need arises. The room will be equipped with AV capabilities including a projector, screen speakers, resident computer and podium.

A full renovation of the kitchen is also included in the scope, offering better choices to compete with other nearby food establishments and prepare meals on site. The kitchen will have the capacity to serve 30-50 for lunch and 40+ for dinner.
