Hello and welcome to my CAPS profile! My name is Joey White and I am one of the 2023 doctoral interns here at Northwestern CAPS. I am in the final year of my PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Memphis. Prior to joining CAPS, I worked in several college counseling settings with undergraduate students at Rhodes College and The University of Memphis. I have also worked with professional graduate students at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. As a student myself, I am aware of just how challenging it can be navigating the various pressures of school, life, and everything in between. I have always been drawn to the intersection where pursuing meaningful goals and living a fulfilling life connect. My passion for finding balance began during my time as a Big-Ten student-athlete and progressed with me earning a master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Denver in 2019. It is my belief that taking care of yourself will undoubtedly result in more sustainable and satisfying performances in all aspects of life.

Because each of us have unique life experiences, I take a flexible, collaborative approach to counseling that is person centered and relies on humanistic, existential, and constructivist theories to help students manage stress and pressure, find balance in life, and maximize their potential. My interests include positive psychology, sports psychology, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, burnout, perfectionism, mindfulness, career counseling, and life transitions. I am excited to be here at Northwestern and feel free to say hello if you see me around campus!
