Hello! I'm Janelle Nguyen (she/her/hers), a doctoral intern at Northwestern CAPS. I am excited to complete my doctoral program (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology: San Francisco while working at Northwestern CAPS this year. Throughout my doctorate program, I have been able to provide therapy in medical, school, community mental health, and university settings. I am happy to return to why I originally entered the field: I am passionate about supporting university students in exploring their identities and navigating the challenges they face. I center my work around helping individuals find their own sense of agency and power. I take a holistic approach by understanding overall health as a combination of various factors including physical, spiritual, and emotional health; individuals within the family, community, and institutional systems we reside within; and values and beliefs as they are developed within cultural, collective, and individual levels. I use an integrative approach, with influences from cognitive behavioral, family systems, narrative, and expressive arts therapy. As a Vietnamese American woman and daughter of refugees, I am passionate about anti-racist and culturally humble practice. Some of my clinical interests include cultural identity development, interpersonal relationships, and life transitions.

In my free time, I love to cook and learn the history, culture, and technique behind different foods. I believe food is a universal language that connects us all. I am new to Illinois and am excited to try new food, join the Northwestern CAPS team, be a Wildcat, and for the Windy City to blow me away!
