Theoretical Orientation:

Dr. Aguinaga values working from a culturally-informed, strength-based approach and views a strong therapeutic alliance as a vehicle for healing and change. She works to foster a warm, empathic, and collaborative environment in which clients feel safe to explore their internal experience. Dr. Aguinaga tailors her treatment approach to each client by employing an integrative stance that is rooted in person-centered and interpersonal therapies, while also drawing on several evidence-based treatment modalities to facilitate change.

Professional Interests/Expertise Areas:

Dr. Aguinaga has provided services in multiple community mental health centers, an integrated care clinic, and several university counseling centers. Dr. Aguinaga is bilingual and offers services in both English and Spanish. She has experience providing individual, group, and couples therapy with individuals across the lifespan and who present with a wide array of concerns. Her specialties include mood disorders, acculturation and immigration issues, challenges related to emerging adulthood, trauma, anxiety, and phase of life difficulties.
