Withdrawing from the University
Policy: If you withdraw after registering for classes, you must immediately file a Withdrawal form bearing the appropriate signatures at the Registrar’s Office of your school. Masters students outside of The Graduate School are required to submit this form to their program offices. If you leave the University without official notification of your intent to withdraw, the midpoint of the term will be recorded as the official withdrawal date.
Your account: You may receive refunds in the form of adjustments to your account for refundable fees and some of your tuition. Remember, tuition deposits are non-refundable.
A refund due to an overpayment not related to financial aid will be returned to the original source of payment.
Financial Aid: If you are a financial aid recipient, please also review Financial Aid & Withdrawals.
Withdrawal Refund schedules
Term withdrawal is the removal of all courses from a student’s class schedule in a term. The percentage of tuition refunded for term withdrawals depends on your school or program and how long you were enrolled in the term.
Please see the schedules in the tabs below for details by the school and the program.
Students enrolled in shorter session classes (5 weeks, 7 weeks, etc.) within a longer term will be refunded for withdrawal on the term schedule. There is no separate withdrawal refund schedule for session withdrawals.

Schedule F: Applies to Kellogg School of Management Executive MBA program
The Executive MBA Program Director must be notified in person and in writing of a student's withdrawal. The reason for withdrawal must be approved by the assistant dean, director, or associate director. Simply ceasing to attend class does not constitute official withdrawal.
All tuition adjustments are computed as of the date on which the official withdrawal notice is received. Adjustments are not made on the basis of attendance in class. In all cases of withdrawal from the Kellogg School after the beginning of a course, adjustments on tuition are made in accordance with the following schedule:
- Students whose withdrawal notices are filed before classes begin each quarter will be refunded their full tuition for the quarter minus the nonrefundable tuition deposit (first academic quarter only).
- Students who withdraw after classes have begun but before the end of the second week of classes will be refunded 50% of tuition.
- Students who withdraw after the second week of classes are not entitled to a refund.
Deposits for confirmation of enrollment are nonrefundable.
