What is Let's Talk?
Let’s Talk is a program for all Northwestern Students that offers drop-in consultations (in-person and virtual) with a CAPS staff member. The consultation meetings are informal, friendly, and confidential.
Let’s Talk is not a substitute for formal counseling and doesn't constitute mental health treatment, but the Let’s Talk consultants will listen to your specific concerns, offer support, resources, and introduce you to what it’s like to speak to a member of our staff.
Let’s Talk is available throughout the academic year (not including summer and university holidays).
What to Expect at Let’s Talk
- Your Let’s Talk meeting may last up to 10-20 minutes
- Speaking with a Let’s Talk Consultant can provide insight, solutions, and information about resources
- No topic is off limits. Common concerns include: stress, sadness, worry/anxiety, academic performance, life transitions, imposter syndrome, homesickness, sleep problems, romantic relationship concerns, family problems, cultivating friendships and a sense of belonging, cultural or racial barriers, concentration difficulties, and more.
The Let's Talk Program at Northwestern University is based on the Let's Talk Program at Cornell University. We would like to thank Matt Boone, LCSW, for his assistance in helping us launch this program on our campus. This successful model has paved the way for us and many others
