Assem was born in Raleigh, North Carolina to Algerian immigrant parents, and spent his childhood in Madison, Alabama before moving to St. Louis, Missouri right before coming to Northwestern as an undergraduate. Currently in his sophomore year of college, Assem is majoring in English Literature and Political Science. More broadly, Assem finds interest in the role of the humanities in our daily lives, especially through how we interact with each other socially and politically. During his free time, Assem loves to play soccer and read about random trivia, and he has recently been inspired by a poetry class to begin to read and write poems whenever he can find the time.
Anna is a second year international student from Hong Kong and is currently majoring in social policy and music. She is interested in educational policy, practice, and how this can contribute to educational equity. As a public service scholar, she is interested in engaging and learning from the surrounding community!
Camila was born in Houston, Texas. She is currently a sophomore studying Philosophy and Political Science along with a History Minor and the Secondary Teaching Certificate. Her plans post graduation include teaching or possibly going to law school. Her hobbies include running, climbing, and anything that includes the outdoors! Camila currently works at Washington Elementary as an Academic Skills Tutor and is in the process of completing philosophical research on Karl Marx and morality.
Kaylyn was born and raised in Des Plaines, Illinois. Kaylyn is committed to education reform and uplifting young voices in schools. Currently, she is a freshman at Northwestern University studying Social Policy. They hope to pursue law and advocate for juvenile rights in the justice system.
Kathryn was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. They are double majoring in Statistics and Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences (MMSS) on the pre-medical track. Kathryn is committed to being a source of support, love, and peace to vulnerable and hurting people, whether they are her future patients or not. Kathryn is involved in many activism and mutual aid groups both affiliated with Northwestern and in the Chicago community. Kathryn loves to watch Jeopardy, play chess and solitaire, make art, and hike.
Anna was born and raised in Long Island, New York. She is currently a sophomore at Northwestern University studying Political Science and Social Policy. After completing her undergraduate education, she is hoping to attend law school. Anna is dedicated to serving the surrounding community in any way possible, and she is looking forward to working with the Public Service Scholars Program to build meaningful and lasting relationships with her peers and community members.
Lori is a second-year student studying Environmental Science and Global Health Studies. She was born in Philadelphia, but moved to the San Francisco Bay area before middle school. She is passionate about environmental conservation and environmental justice issues. Lori is very excited to get involved in the North of Howard community in order to build relationships off campus. In her free time, Lori enjoys running, swimming, and spending time outdoors.
Josh is a sophomore undergrad from the Boston-area studying Cognitive Science and Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences. He hopes to pursue research in the social sciences after he graduates. In his spare time, he enjoys playing Pokémon video games.
