Civic Love: Spirituality + Social Action

fostering conversations at the intersection of spirituality and social justice
Fall 2021 Dates

7:00-8:15 pm every other Tuesday in Parkes Hall

Sponsored by Northwestern Leadership Development & Community Engagement and Religious & Spiritual Life, this bi-weekly student program features snacks, community building, and an opportunity to learn from local leaders doing justice and equity work grounded in the spiritual life. Students of all faith traditions and intentional secular backgrounds are invited. This is an inclusive space where all are welcome.

What is civic love?

Activist Grace Lee Boggs asks us to “bring to our communities the limitless capacity to love, serve, and create for and with each other.”  Civic love is one’s love for society, expressed through a commitment to the common good.  It is a belief in the idea that “we’re all better off, when we are all better off.” We manifest this through all kinds of actions - volunteering, marching, speaking against systemic injustice, making reparations - but love itself is the emotional heart of the work. We hope you will…
