University Shuttles Go Hybrid

Northwestern will launch a new fleet of hybrid-electric shuttle buses in Fall of 2025, marking an exciting move toward reducing the university’s carbon footprint and improving air quality on campus and beyond.Image of a Northwestern Intercampus Shuttle

The new hybrid shuttles combine electric power generated by the bus’s operations with diesel fuel for additional power when needed, offering a cleaner, more efficient alternative to traditional diesel buses. The hybrid buses will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by the equivalent of removing three diesel shuttles from the road.

With these new hybrid-electric shuttles, Northwestern is taking a bold step toward a greener, more sustainable future for all.
