Dance Marathon goes green

Dance MarathonOver the past forty years, NU’s Dance Marathon has established itself as one of the nation’s premier University fundraising events. This year Dance Marathon raised over $1,214,632, but their hard work didn’t stop there. DM became more environmentally-friendly by working with Facilities Management and the Office of Sustainability to offset their carbon emissions from the energy used at their event. They also partnered with Sodexo and the ASG Sustainability committee with the goal of having a “zero waste” event by composting food waste and providing reusable water bottles for all dancers.

The first “zero-waste” event on campus took place during the 2012 Wildcat Welcome ASG Barbeque and Dillo Day is currently looking into the feasibility of composting and reducing single use containers.
