National Student Employment Week
April 14-18, 2025
Every year, the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) declares the second full week in April to be National Student Employment Week. It was established to increase public awareness and to recognize students who work while attending college.
Student employees perform invaluable services with enthusiasm, dedication, and initiative. Setting aside a special week to draw the awareness of others, both on and off campus, is the perfect opportunity to show your appreciation.
We encourage you to find ways to celebrate the student employees in your area. Below are some suggestions:
- Decorate your office
- Friendly competition (games, trivia, etc.)
- Treats and other goodies
- NU swag or professional items (portfolios, pens, stationary, etc.)
- A written thank you note of appreciation
Student Employee of the Year
Each year, employers are encouraged to nominate their student employees who they consider have gone above and beyond in their positions for Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY). Students may be nominated for any one or multiple categories outlined below:
- Critical Thinking
- Diversity and Inclusion
- Leadership
- Technology and Innovation
- Community Service
Nominees must be current Northwestern undergraduate or graduate students (fall quarter graduates are not eligible since SEOTY coincides with National Student Employment Week held during the spring quarter). Additionally, nominees must have been employed by their current employer for at least one academic quarter (10 weeks).
Additional information and nomination instructions will be shared with employers in January each year.
