2020 Earth Month Wrap Up

Thank you for participating in our 2020 Virtual Earth Month. Being away from campus prompted unexpected changes in our Earth Month plans, but it was heartening to see how our community came together to take action by participating in sustainNU’s curated online activities and events throughout April.

Our “Earth Month 2020: Connections” campaign saw participation from an amazing 42 offices/departments, 52 different countries, and 45 states with online programs and activities engaging ~5,700 students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members. On our social media channels, we had over 2,000 engagements with our posts.

For half a century, people across the globe have marked April 22nd with action in support of a healthier environment. While many things are different this year, our collective showing of support for the earth was not.

We hope you will continue to take action beyond earth month. Environmental impact isn’t limited to one place or time. By incorporating the practices we promote on campus into your personal activities and decisions at home, you increase impact. By sharing what you are doing with your neighbor or coworker, you increase impact.

Please continue to think about sustainability in your home. Please keep learning and reading about our planet and ways you can protect the environment. Please look for opportunities to contribute to the greater good even when sheltered at home. And when we do all return to campus, we hope you will remain committed to advancing our campus sustainability efforts to protect the environment.

We are grateful for your support of sustainability at home, on campus, or wherever you are. Please continue to find the ways that work for you to connect to the planet and each other. And of course, we hope that you and your families are safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.

Sincerely,

Greg Kozak and the rest of the sustainNU team, Julie Cahillane, Maggie Olson, and Sarah Tulga
