Lunar New Year Greetings from Northwestern President Michael Schill

Transcript:

Hello everyone,

I'm Michael Schill, the 17th president of Northwestern University.

I am honored to wish you -- the community, alumni and friends of this remarkable university -- a Happy Lunar New Year.

May the Year of the Rabbit bring you peace, great health, and an abundance of fortune and prosperity.

Now, when I learned that the characteristics most associated with the rabbit are intellect, productivity and hard work, and peace, safety and empathy, I couldn't help but think that these attributes are similarly descriptive of the Northwestern community.

First: Intellect. Our Northwestern community is made up of great minds who strive to make a positive impact on the world through groundbreaking research and a strong commitment to teaching and to lifetime learning.

Second, the hard work of Northwestern students, faculty and staff is indisputable. I'm excited about the year ahead as I know our enthusiastic and forward-thinking students and scholars can and will demonstrate their determination to make the world a better place through science, the arts, business, and public service.

This leads me to the rabbit's third association, with empathy, safety, and peace — all of which the world needs most, and most urgently.

Let's work together toward a safer, healthier, and more harmonious year. A year in which we resolve our conflicts peacefully. One in which our friends and families throughout the world will swiftly recover from the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as other illnesses. And one in which we all emerge a more resilient and unified society.

Let's come together for the greater good of all!

Happy Lunar New Year! Happy Year of the Rabbit!
