Pair of graduating seniors chosen for local government fellowship

The Office of Fellowships is excited to announce that Anahi Marquez (SESP ’23) and Cindy Shou (WCAS ’23) have been chosen for the 2023–2024 cohort of the James Dunn Fellowship! Next year, Anahi and Cindy will work in Illinois state government through the fellowship.

Photo of Anahi MarquezAnahi is a graduating senior from Berwyn, Illinois, majoring in social policy, with minors in political science and Spanish. On campus, she has been an active Evans Scholar, fostering community through service as a social chair and as a diversity, equity, and inclusion chair. As a first-generation and lower-income student, Anahi also strengthened connections through Northwestern’s Compass program and SESP’s Leadership Institute. Outside of Northwestern, she has worked for the Lauren Underwood campaign and the office of Senator Durbin, in Washington, DC.

Passionate about helping others through meaningful and intersectional policymaking, Anahi is excited to shape the future of her home state.

Photo of Cindy ShouCindy is a graduating senior from Baltimore, Maryland, double majoring in history and global health. On campus, she works as a research assistant in Dr. Emma Adam’s Contexts of Adolescent Stress and Thriving Lab through the Institute of Policy Research. Cindy is also the treasurer for club tennis and has previously served as a peer advisor for Wildcat Welcome; as a teaching assistant in the biology department; and as analytics committee chair for Associated Student Government.

Cindy is excited to bring her passion for interdisciplinary research as well as her experience working with students to support Deputy Governor Martin Torres and the education team, where she will be working with external stakeholders and state commissions to promote equity across the early childhood-to-higher education spectrum.
