Change in Cannabis Use Since Legalization in IL
Illinois state law legalizing cannabis (marijuana) went into effect in January 2020. This chart illustrates how students' self-reported cannabis use has changed since its legalization at the state level.
Of Note:
- About 17% of students reported an increase in use, while nearly 25% reported their use remained the same.
- Juniors and seniors were nearly twice as likely to report an increase in cannabis use after legalization compared to freshmen and sophomores.
- Males were more likely to report an increase in use compared to females.
