Access Coordinator




As an Access Coordinator, Allen collaborates with students, instructors, and university staff to arrange learning and campus living accommodations with the goal of creating an accessible and equitable Northwestern experience.

Having working in the field of disability services in higher education since 2009, Allen has served in multiple capacities at a number of institutions, including Rutgers University-Newark, University of Michigan, and Michigan State University. He recently served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) from 2020-2023 and continues to be engaged nationally.

As a person who identifies as Deaf (Hard of Hearing; fluent in American Sign Language), neurodivergent, and disabled, Allen’s journey greatly influences his commitment to his work in disability access. He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Wright State University in Ohio and a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

 

In his free time, Allen enjoys exploring new cuisines with his wife, playing cards with (AKA: losing to) his parents, hiking, gaming, and playing ultimate frisbee.
