Steve Hill

steveintro.jpg"Well into my graduate career, I had my first paper accepted at a national conference, for a desirable Saturday slot. This was a big deal.

The Thursday before the conference, my wife and I sat in our car when my advisor rode up on his bike. Through my open window, we exchanged pleasantries, and then he said, 'Steve, I read your paper. You need to rewrite it from scratch.' Then he rode off. Ouch. Really hard news, but I did it and quickly realized that he was 100% correct. Sometimes you need to let go to come at it fresh. Don't be afraid to start over. Although salvage often seems like the easier option, some things cannot be rescued."
