Keep Mixing It Up

Mixed REcyclingIn February, Northwestern moved to mixed recycling, meaning that paper, cardboard, glass, cans, and plastic are now collected in the same recycling bins. This change is intended to make recycling easier and more convenient, helping to increase campus recycling rates.

In many high-traffic buildings, bins have already been updated to reflect this new practice. You have probably seen the new recycling lids and labels if you have visited Norris, the library, or Tech in recent weeks. You’ll see the changes come to more buildings over the next few months. This switch will take time and we continue to fill requests for labels, lids, and bins. During this time, recycling will continue as usual on campus. The only difference is that it is no longer necessary to separate paper and cardboard from glass, plastic and cans.

Visit the Office of Sustainability website for details about what can be recycled at Northwestern or to download a flyer to post near recycling and trash bins.
