Photo Exhibit Features Northwestern Bike Commuters

Northwestern staff member Alison Witt-Janssen enjoys riding her bicycle to her job in the Department of Classics. So when she took a photography Mini Course at Norris University Center last fall, it was only natural that she would focus her attention on capturing images of fellow University bike commuters.

From February 15 through 27, Witt-Janssen’s photo portraits of cyclists will be on display at the Norris Galleria, located on the ground floor of Norris near the entrance to Frontera Fresco.

“It was a treat to shoot fellow cyclists over the glorious 2015 warm fall days, make new friends, practice photography, and now share this exhibit,” she said.

The exhibit features images of faculty and staff members from a variety of University schools and departments, along with brief narratives describing each cyclist’s approach to biking. Jennifer Howard, a staff member in the McCormick School of Engineering, contributed an essay about her love of cycling, which is posted along with the images.

Fans of cycling and photography are invited to join the photographer, featured cyclists, and Office of Sustainability staff for a reception and viewing of the exhibit at 4:30 p.m. on February 18 in the Norris Galleria. RSVP for the reception on Facebook.
