How We Work

Welcome to Student Affairs Marketing (SAM)!

We are a marketing and communications resource for the Division of Student Affairs. Our full-time staff and student colleagues aim to both develop and deliver creative solutions that educate, engage, and enrich the Northwestern community.

On May 3, 2021, Jill Norton, Interim Director held an informal Zoom meeting to introduce staff to students and students to staff, to go over the many changes in both SAM and the marketing industry. Mostly, reminding staff of the many resources that can go along with design requests, the value of pre request meetings to discuss campaigns and other ideas how to best reach our students.

Here is what we need from you.


To properly deliver your message, we need:

  • A preliminary description of the message you want to send
  • Dates, times, locations, basic event descriptions to properly craft effective marketing solutions
  • Additional details are always appreciated!

A Timeline!

We want to launch your campaign in a timely manner, so we need to know when you want to start implementing your promotions. (We make every effort to deliver final materials to our clients by their desired start date, although initial concepts and mockups may be delivered according to our own internal calendar.)

Our staff is able to consistently create top-quality work by maintaining consistent communication with our clients, so be sure to send us the name and email address of someone to send questions, ideas, and preliminary concepts.

Project Acceptance

Because we believe that quality work takes quality time, we will ONLY accept new projects during four annual request periods; each corresponding to an academic quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer).

While we would love to accept every project submitted via the request form, time and budget constraints necessitate us turning down some projects. Projects are prioritized based on their relevance to the Division of Student Affairs' strategic themes and divisional priorities, as well as the completeness and specificity of the answers given to questions on the request form.
