Weinberg College of Arts and SciencesWeinberg College of Arts and Sciences Dean Daniel Linzer welcomed alumni volunteers serving on the school's Board of Visitors for its annual meeting May 13-15. Sessions included a discussion of key issues affecting the school, a conversation with University President Henry S. Bienen, presentations by Weinberg faculty and a meeting with the student advisory board. In June Linzer joined 60 alumni members of the Wilson Society for the Arts and Sciences for a luncheon at the Chicago Club in downtown Chicago. There, Carl Smith, Franklyn Bliss Snyder Professor of English and American Studies, Brian Dennis, assistant professor of computer science and journalism, and students from their team-taught junior research seminar Using Technology, Making History demonstrated their project that examines Daniel Burnham's 1909 Plan of Chicago and makes that information accessible online as part of the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Chicago (see cover story). On Oct. 6 Wilson Society members will attend a reception at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, where Jennifer Brody, associate professor of English and performance studies and director of undergraduate studies in the English department, and visiting professor of English Judith Sensibar will discuss their research seminar class on modernism.
