Meet the Tutors

Drop-In Peer Tutors are Northwestern undergraduate students who have taken and done well in the courses they tutor. This requirement for drop-in tutors helps them be familiar with the course content, the professor, and the strategies that helped them succeed in the course.

Here are a few of the helpful tutors you will find during drop-in hours!

Paul Bernhard

Paul Bernhard

Tutor Subject: General Chemistry

Hi everybody! My name is Paul Bernhard and I am a general chemistry tutor for this academic year. I'm a fourth year Biology major with minors in English Literature, Data Science, and (maybe) chemistry! Currently I am thinking about doing an MD/PhD program where I can fulfill my dream of becoming a physician, while also getting to continue doing research in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology, possibly in the realm of RNA structural and functional dynamics! Outside of tutoring and Northwestern courses, I am frequently learning and participating in various trivia nights and events (specifically Bob's on Tuesday nights), reading science fiction novels, watching every movie imaginable, and off-trail hiking and camping! I'm very excited to meet all of you!
Sari Eisen

Sari Eisen(she/her)

Tutor Subject: Math

Hi! I'm Sari, a junior at Northwestern from West Hartford, CT studying Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences (MMSS) and Data Science. After graduation, I want to continue my academic career by attending graduate school in math or something related, then work with data science out in the real world. When I'm not tutoring or in class, you can usually find me at Northwestern Hillel (I'm the President of our student executive board) or giving tours for the Northwestern Admissions department. I also enjoy reading, listening to music, and replicating recipes I find on Tik Tok. Come say hi in Shepard!

Allie Holmgren

Allie Holmgren

Tutor Subject: EA Sequence

Hi! I’m Allie and I’m a junior in McCormick majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Transportation and Logistics. In the future, I’d really like to work in transportation engineering and maybe pursue a Masters in Industrial Engineering. Outside of the classroom, I really like baking, going to the gym, and taking road trips. I’ve been tutoring for several years, but this is my first time tutoring with ASLA, so I’m very excited to start!

Sabrina Lam

Sabrina Lam

Tutor Subject: Organic Chemistry

Hey everyone! My name is Sabrina and I'll be tutoring organic chemistry! I am a second year studying psychology and minoring in Chemistry. Outside tutoring, I'm on Refresh Dance, CSA and HKSA. I love to hang out with my friends on lakefill and try new restaurants in Evanston. Look forward to meeting all of you!

Grace Meng

Grace Meng

Tutor Subject: EA Sequence

Hey everyone! My name is Grace and I am a sophomore in McCormick, majoring in Electrical Engineering. I am interested in many MechE topics as well, such as fluid dynamics and mechatronics, and I currently wish to pursue robotics/automobile in the future! Outside of academics, I am very involved in many student clubs such as the Formula Racing Team and NUSTARS, and am conducting research in a lab. I also enjoy playing musical instruments, snowboarding and making small handcrafts in the shop. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Julie Paska

Julie Paska (she/her)

Tutor Subject: Biology

Hi friends! My name is Julie Paska (she/her), and I'll be tutoring Biology for ASLA this year! I am a second year majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology, and I hope to attend medical school one day. I decided to tutor chemistry because I love how interrelated topics in chemistry are with topics in other natural sciences, such as bio and psych. Besides my academic endeavors, you can spot me grabbing a poke bowl at Pono Ono, reading feminist prose (Atwood is my favorite!), or chilling with fellow members of NU's American Medical Women's Association. I am also a proud FGLI student, a daughter of two Polish Immigrants, and a resident of the greater Chicagoland area. Can't wait to meet and work with all of y'all!

Sheena Tan

Sheena Tan (she/her)

Tutor Subject: General Chemistry

Hi, I'm Sheena, and I'm a junior studying psychology, statistics, and Asian American studies. My interests over the years have led me through everything from journalism to chemistry to data science. Outside the classroom, you can find me convincing friends to watch the sunset on the lakefill, talking about race, or working on as many passion projects as I can. Can't wait to see you at the Multicultural Center!

Marilene van den Berg

Marilene van den Berg(she/her)

Tutor Subject: Physics

Hi everyone! I'm Marilene van den Berg, a junior at Northwestern studying biomedical engineering, and I'll be tutoring Physics this year. Currently, I'm really interested in engineering research and applying it to the medical field to improve healthcare efficacy and accessibility in some shape or form. Outside the classroom, you'll find me on a tennis court, playing spikeball, cooking up a new recipe, or reading a good romance novel. I'm excited to meet you all!
