Summer 2023 GESI Workshop Facilitator Job Openings

The Global Engagement Studies Institute (GESI) seeks graduate students to lead two workshops with undergraduate students. Very little preparation is necessary; rather expertise in one of the GESI 2023 Summer locations. GESI has traditionally been a study abroad program that provides undergraduates with the knowledge, tools, and experiences to partner with communities to confront shared global challenges. The program pairs critical development/nonprofit studies with opportunities in collaborative experiential learning with small-scale community/nonprofit organizations abroad.

Workshops will take place on:
  • Tuesday, June 13 from 2:30–5:30 PM

  • Wednesday, June 14 from 9:00–11:00 AM

  • Friday, June 16 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Responsibilities include: 
  • Leading students in a general research workshop
  • Helping students evaluate the credibility of online resources
  • Act as an expert on one specific country's context
  • Provide very basic context and starting resources to understand topics in politics, social life, economics, gender, etc. of a given country
  • Facilitate productive discussion among students during the workshop
Required qualifications:
  • Coursework and/or research into one of the countries of the GESI 2023 Summer locations: 
    • Bolivia
    • Costa Rica
    • Ecuador
    • Uganda
    • Vietnam
Preferred qualifications: 
  • Background or coursework in critical development studies (nonprofits, NGOs, humanitarianism, etc.) or professional/research experience in development/NGO orgs.

Compensation:

This role will be supplemental to your regular stipend. The position will pay a $550 stipend.
