Loan Application Process
Students and Parents may choose to obtain loans to help finance education expenses. Northwestern has information to assist in the Application Process, informing you about your Borrower Obligations and providing you the basics for the Repayment of your student loan.
Application Information
Northwestern offers loans to both parents and students. The Northwestern Loan application is available online.
Students must initiate the process by completing the student portion on the NU Loan application through CAESAR . (CAESAR > Student Homepage >Financial Aid > Institutional Loan Application). Once the student initiates the process, the student and/or the parent borrower will receive an ID and password for the online Northwestern Loan Application (NLA) to complete the application. International Students
The eligibility for and types of financial aid available to international students at Northwestern varies by academic program. Contact your financial aid office to determine the financial aid options available to you.
Domestic Students

Apply for Financial Aid
Get in touch with your financial aid office to determine the types of financial assistance that may be available to you. Follow the steps they provide to apply for financial aid. To be considered for financial aid, you will need to complete all required materials and submit any other necessary documents. Your information will then be reviewed to determine your financial aid eligibility. -
Accept or decline financial aid awards
After successfully completing and submitting all required materials you will receive notification from your financial aid office regarding your eligibility. You must then review the financial aid offer and accept or decline awards via CAESAR. -

If necessary, contact your Student Finance representative with any questions regarding the Northwestern University student loan. Student Finance can provide you with guidance and information regarding required materials, important dates and deadlines.
