Your first year at Northwestern is a unique time, and several optional programs are offered this summer and in the fall to help you make the most of it. Most programs have application deadlines at the end of May or in June, so act soon! Visit the program websites for the most up-to-date information.

Fall Academic Program: SESP Leadership Institute (SLI)

SLI: School of Education and Social Policy Leadership Institute
SLI is a 2-credit program that centers the experiences of first-generation and/or lower-income students. SLI encourages students to draw on their histories to inform their writings and academic pursuits and shape their communities at Northwestern and beyond.

Academic Program: Arch Scholars Advanced Science Practicum

Arch Scholars Advanced Science Practicum
The Arch Scholars Advanced Science Practicum (ASP) is designed to support first-generation and lower-income students, especially those with limited AP preparation, when they are co-enrolled in Organic Chemistry and Biology courses in the same quarter. The purpose of ASP is to help you better manage your time, engage in more effective study habits, enhance your understanding of scientific concepts (including how the concepts you learn in chemistry connect to biology), and to reflect on your performance in your coursework. Students will register once the quarter has begun.
